Welcoming a New Era of Leadership at Albany State University
May 28, 2025

Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission (ADEDC), in partnership with the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce, proudly co-sponsored a special community reception honoring Dr. Robert Scott, the newly appointed President of Albany State University (ASU).
Held in the heart of Downtown Albany, this warm welcome brought together a diverse group of community leaders, educators, civic supporters, and ASU stakeholders to celebrate Dr. Scott’s appointment and the promising path forward under his leadership. The reception served not only as a celebration but also as a reflection of our community’s shared commitment to higher education and the role it plays in shaping economic prosperity.
As the only Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Southwest Georgia, ASU holds a critical place in the region’s educational and cultural landscape. With Dr. Scott at the helm, the university is poised to further strengthen its impact—empowering students, expanding partnerships, and contributing to a vibrant, skilled workforce that drives long-term regional growth.
“At ADEDC, we believe higher education is a key pillar of economic development,” said Jana Dyke, President & CEO of ADEDC. “We are excited to support Dr. Scott and Albany State University as they continue to cultivate opportunity, innovation, and inclusive growth across our community.”
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Scott and look forward to collaborating in the years ahead as we build on the strong foundation of education, leadership, and community advancement in Albany-Dougherty.
