During the Season of Thanks, We Celebrate Albany’s Global Impact
November 24, 2025
As we approach Thanksgiving, the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission is reflecting on the many reasons our community has to be grateful. At the top of that list are the local organizations whose compassion, innovation, and service extend far beyond our county lines. This month, one Albany nonprofit demonstrated just how far our community’s generosity can reach — all the way to South Sudan.
Peanut Butter, an Albany-based 501(c)(3) dedicated to fighting childhood malnutrition, recently returned from a 10-day mission trip to South Sudan. During this trip, the team launched the organization’s first-ever feeding program in one of the world’s most vulnerable regions.
Traveling more than 16,000 miles, the Peanut Butter team delivered life-sustaining nutrition to children facing food insecurity and severe malnutrition. Their work has already made a measurable impact, and their feeding program continues to provide daily nourishment to families who need it most.
What makes this mission especially powerful is its origin. Peanut Butter was founded right here in Albany, born from a desire to serve children and families in crisis. Today, that vision is reaching across continents — proving that a single idea, rooted in community, can spark global change.
From packing supplies in Albany to feeding children in South Sudan, this effort reflects the very core of who we are: a region that believes in service, compassion, and lifting others up.
In this season of thanks, ADEDC is proud to recognize organizations like Peanut Butter who carry the spirit of Albany with them wherever they go. Their work reminds us that economic development is not just about business growth — it is also about nurturing a community that cares deeply, acts boldly, and supports those in need.

This Thanksgiving, we celebrate them — and all who are committed to making Albany a place of generosity, resilience, and global impact.
