#MadeInAlbanyGA

Albany, Ga. – Albany Green Energy, an Exelon-Constellation biomass energy plant, is being showcased by the Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission in its industry marketing campaign “#MadeInAlbanyGA”.

Using a biomass process, Albany Green Energy uses wood waste to produce steam energy which is then sold to Procter & Gamble (P&G), Georgia Power, and effective 2018, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany.

Located on the campus of paper product manufacturer P&G, Albany Green Energy is a 50-megawatt power generation facility generating 394,000 megawatt-hours of power per year – enough renewable electricity to generate power for more than 35,000 homes.

Through a process called “Combined Heat and Power,” which incorporates biomass from wood waste such as forest residuals, crop waste and mill waste that would otherwise be left to decay on the forest floor or be sent to a landfill, Albany Green Energy is able to produce renewable energy at a rate that is two to three times more efficient than traditional means.

“The biomass energy production facility at Albany Green Energy is on the cutting edge of energy manufacturing, being clean, efficient and cost-effective,” said ADEDC President Justin Strickland. “The partnership between Exelon, P&G, Georgia Power and MCLB Albany concerning this project is a testament to the progressive and collaborative spirit in Albany-Dougherty County that helps move businesses forward.”

Through its partnership with P&G, the biomass plant is able to provide the industry with100% of the steam needed to power its 24-hour manufacturing operation.

Albany Green Energy is a subsidiary of Constellation, parent company Exelon, which through such subsidiaries sells power, natural gas, renewable energy and energy management products and services for homes and businesses across continental United States.

The #MadeInAlbanyGA campaign, which features an existing industry each month, is an expansion on the award-winning video of the same title, produced by the ADEDC in 2014. The expanded 2016-2017 campaign includes both print and digital components, which can be seen on the ADEDC’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, and on its website, choosealbany.com.
